Porcelain objects have arrived to Budapest.
The Chinese merchant ship never reached Batavia with it’s cargo because of a fire broken out on the board, between 1725 and 1732 by the South-Vietnamese Ca Mau horn.
The porcelains intended for European,Muslim and South-East Asian customers had layed for about 300 years under the depths of the sea.
The ship was found by a local fisherman in 1998 a he sold some pieces from the cargo.Later the authorities had become aware of the incident and began the excavation and rescue of the objects.
After the scientific processing, part of the findings went to the Hanoi
Historical Museum and the rest of them were sold in two auctions in Vietnam.
Istvan Zelnik the famous Hungarian collector started to collect sistematically the Ca Mau porcelains from all over the world,so he has now the most complete and largest private collection of these objects.
Almost every type of the cargo of the Chinese ship can be seen in his collection, from the brush holders, spoons, lead glazed dishes,incense-burners,through the blue-dying made small vases to the human figures.
From the mid-Aprile this year Mr.Zelnik will show his rarities for the greater audience, for example the monkey shaped stone jar, cups overgrown with corals or the porcelains burnt in the on-board fire.
The collector’s aim to bring closer culture to the young people and the general public.
The prices were also set for the general public, a student for example can see the exhibition for the price of a hamburger and a soft drink.
